WHAT WE ARE

Woy Woy Little Theatre is an incorporated non- profit amateur drama group established in 1962 and run by a passionate group of actors and theatre lovers.

OUR AIM

Our aim is to bring a diverse program of plays to the community to suit all ages. We produce 3-4 plays per year. Woy Woy Little Theatre also aims to encourage and provide education for youth, in all facets of theatrical production, by providing a suitable vehicle for aspiring actors and stage personnel to sharpen their talents.

We also run workshops incorporating all aspects of producing plays to help develop production skills.

Everything we have done over more than 45 years has been achieved by an amazing group of volunteers who have, during their time here, learned an incredible number of skills.

WHERE WE PERFORM

All performances are held at the Peninsula Theatre which is adjacent to the Peninsula Community Centre on the corner of Ocean Beach Road and McMasters Road, Woy Woy. This is a purpose built theatre space, the only one of its kind on the Central Coast. There is ample parking next to the theatre.

OUR REPERTOIRE

Apart from adult plays, music halls and a couple of topical revues, we have performed a number of children's plays over the years - The Wizard of Oz, Toad of Toad Hall. Peter Pan, Hans, the Witch and the Goblin, The Worst Christmas Fairy Ever, Winnie the Pooh and Second Childhood to name a few. We constantly strive to encourage children to attend the theatre as we know they are the audience of tomorrow, and the magic of theatre is an experience entirely different from anything else in their lives. We therefore thank all the Mums, Dads, Grandparents and Guardians for bringing them to the theatre and introducing them to its delights.

Pat Gilroy, John Hickey, Terry Collins, Brenda Logan, Hilda Bird, Mary Middleton and Fran Kendall to name a few, have managed to bring home the gold, either in their capacity as actors, directors
or both.

OUR FINANCES

People have often asked us what we do with the money we make. Well, fortunately, we have been able to operate at a reasonable profit and we have had some very good treasurers over the years who have invested our funds wisely. These funds are being ploughed back into the theatre. In the recent past, we have purchased over $8,000 worth of lighting equipment, a cyclorama costing $7,000 and helped our canteen workers by purchasing a dishwasher and glasses, following our acquisition of a liquor license in 2004.

We have recently allocated $50,000 for the construction of an annexe with a common wall to the theatre to store our flats, furniture, props and costumes.

EDUCATION

During each year we run one or more workshops to train budding thespians, encompassing all aspects of acting and theatre management.

We also have helped various young people financially in their efforts to succeed in this very competitive business. Recently, this includes Daniel Williams, Rosemary Parsons and Shelander Waltmann.

Last year, we sponsored Youth in Performing Arts, a wonderful week featuring the very best young talent on the coast with a prize of $500 to help them with their drama/singing lessons.

It would be remiss not to mention our sponsoring of Brisbane Water Secondary College Students Entertainment Unit. Brenda Logan and Rosemary Parsons have spent many hours with these students, teaching them all the theatre skills required to put on a play. Three or four of them have moved on to jobs in the industry and we congratulate them all.
